Vossloh-Schwabe and Universal Lighting

We are pleased to announce the merger of Universal Lighting Technologies with Vossloh-Schwabe in ASIA.

With the aim to constantly enhance the benefits and services to our customers, Panasonic Electric Works, Co.,Ltd. (PEW, former Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd. till September 30th , 2008) took the decision to merge the two Panasonic Lighting Component Operations in th Asia with effect September 30 , 2008 to one stronger company under the VS brand.

This product synergy offer together with our high motivational drive, rich experience and good technical know how of the unity of ULT and VS personnel makes Vossloh-Schwabe in Asia a very attractive one-stop-shop.

As VS works to consolidate the operations in Asia, our customers will continue to liaise with the existing VS or ULT members, whom they are familiar and has worked with for years.

The combined team of VS and ULT will be in a strategic position to offer the complete range of
imported products as well as localised innovative components including:

Once again the lighting industry´s largest and most comprehensive show, LIGHT + BUILDING, is back in Frankfurt and will open its doors from April 6th to 11th, 2008.

2006: Welcome to the Light & Building 2006
Vossloh-Schwabe will again be represented at this year´s key lighting fair in Frankfurt from 23rd to 27th April 2006 and this time with more than 150 new developments.

2005: Vossloh-Schwabe at the INTEL 2005
Welcome to this year’s largest European fair for lighting technology, the INTEL 2005 in Milan from 17th to 21st May. This event attracts the international lighting industry for the purpose of presenting innovations, state-of-the-art technologies and future-pointing designs.
Vossloh-Schwabe will be exhibiting its entire product range from lampholders, capacitors, magnetic and electronic ballasts and HID systems right up to LED systems and ALF, the automated luminaire wiring system.

Price Increase for Magnetic Components due to Spiralling Raw Material Costs

Raw material prices as well as electric power and oil prices have reached an all-time high. As a globally leading manufacturer of components for lighting, we have also been affected by this market development. Up to now, we have largely borne this cost increase by ourselves without passing it on to the market. However, these continually rising overheads cannot simply be offset by automation or other internal cost-reduction measures.

Against this background, we therefore have no choice but to increase our prices for magnetic components between 10 % and 15 % with effect from 1 January 2006. This raise in prices serves the sole purpose of covering our substantially higher raw material costs.

The VS sales team will shortly present you with the new price list for 2006 and explain all the details. Until further notice, we will adjust our prices at quarterly intervals to reflect developments on the raw materials market.

Please be assured that we are doing all we can to keep this price increase to a minimum. Top quality and premium service will naturally continue to be key elements of Vossloh-Schwabe´s product and service range.

We hope you will understand our reasons for this action and look forward to continuing our successful business partnership in the future.

European Directive 2000/55/EC

In February 2003 we informed you about the fact that the European Union had adopted directive 2000/55/EC (ballasts) on the reduction of CO₂ emissions.

In the autumn of this year the second banishment stage for magnetic ballasts will come into force. With effect from 21^st, November 2005, it will become illegal to place (sell) ballasts of CELMA energy class C (EEI=C) into the European market.

The national legislations regarding the sale of existing OEM stocks of luminairies are different in the countries of the European Community. Most national legislations accept that existing stocks of  ballasts and luminaries with ballasts (placed into the market before 21^st, November 2005) can be sold off after the 21^st, November 2005. 

Vossloh-Schwabe ballasts with energy class C (EEI=C) will cease to be marked with the CE sign from 20^th, November 2005. VS will continue to accept orders for energy class C ballasts (EEI=C) with CE mark, like all ballast manufacturers represented by CELMA, until the 31^st, August, 2005.

Because of the special situation and time line, VS can not accept any changes to such orders or any returns of  C-class products after the 31^st, August 2005.

This arrangement is designed to enable old stocks to be cleared and thus ensure that all luminaires sold into the European market comply with the directive as of the effective date and also with the individual national legislation.

For ease of identification, Vossloh-Schwabe magnetic ballasts with energy classification EEI=B1 and EEI=B2, which comply with the European directive will bear a green product label as of 21^st, November 2005 in addition to the CE mark.

The enclosed brochure provides information regarding the technical and administrative background to the second banishment stage. It also contains tables of VS energy class EEI=B1 and EEI=B2 ballasts, broken down by lamps and design type.

Matsushita strengthens north american lighting component operations

Vossloh-Schwabe Matsushita Electric Works today announced the merger of Matsushita’s North American lighting components operations, Vossloh-Schwabe Inc. and the Lighting Division of Aromat Inc.. The decision was taken by Matsushita Electric Work’s (MEW) headquarter in order to strengthen the company’s position on the NAFTA markets (USA, Canada, Mexico). It will be effective as of July 1, 2005.

The new entity will operate under the Vossloh-Schwabe brand, with registered offices in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. It complements an extended product portfolio, enhanced customer proximity and the Matsushita Group’s vast technological expertise to provide a one-stop shopping solution for advanced lighting components.

System Components for High-Pressure Discharge Lamps

The wide variety of modern high-pressure discharge lamps inspires the creativity of the lighting industry as well as the diversity of lighting architecture. The utilization of reliable and adequate operating devices and components is a necessity for the competent application of increasingly extensive discharge lamp technology.

The attached brochure gives you a global technical overview of the features and advantages of modern lighting components for high-pressure discharge lamps in their different circuits and applications. The selection of samples for this mailing is only a small part of the VS product range and serves to illustrate the significance of the combination of ballasts, ignitors, capacitors and lampholders.

Ongoing VS cooperation with the international standard committees guarantees that VS components always comply with the state-of-the-art and international standards.

Five-Year Warranty

Vossloh-Schwabe provides an extended five-year manufacturer’s warranty as long as the lighting system was designed and installed according to the respectively valid IEC standard and under observation of the technical parameters defined by VS like limiting temperatures, cable lengths, circuits, etc. in the respective luminaires.

VS recommends the use of complete VS component systems with operating devices and lampholders. However, the warranty also applies if other components are used in the lighting system as long as they bear the international approval mark in accordance with the IEC standard. This extended warranty only applies if the respective lighting system is registered with Vossloh-Schwabe within 90 days following delivery (invoice) date. To do this, please download our brochure.
